Lady Mariners down Dalbrae 60-50, capture fifth place

Jessica Sabean and Lynn Wall led Digby Regional’s Lady Mariners as they defeated Dalbrae Academy on Saturday to secure fifth place at the Division 3 provincial championships in Springhill.

The Lady Mariners, seeded eighth in the tournament, lost their opening game 95-74 Thursday to top seeded Springhill, but then rebounded to post a 51-42 win against Musquodoboit in the consolation semi-finals Friday.

In Saturday’s battle for fifth place, the Lady Mariners got a 21-point effort from Sabean and 19 more from Wall as the pair accounted for two-thirds of Digby’s scoring.

The championship was won by host Springhill.
