By Karla Kelly FOR THE DIGBY COURIER Annapolis West Education Center senior girls’ basketball team scored two hoop victories in league action Saturday at St. Mary’s Bay Academy, tying them with Bridgetown for a chance to earn a spot at Regionals Feb. 20-21.

AWEC edged Kings Edgehill 46-40 in the first game followed by a Kings Edgehill 49-31 victory over SMBA in the second match.

KES led SMBA in all four quarters, with the closest being a 17-16 third quarter lead for the visitors.

Giselle Peters scored 11 for SMBA and Jenna Muise added eight.

Jasmine Smith had a game-high 19 while Caleigh Fraser scored 12 for KES.

In the final game, AWEC doubled SMBA 62-31 with Jenna Muise leading SMBA with 11 points and Jocelyn Theriault chipping in eight for the loss.

SMBA and KES will advance to the seeding tournament Feb. 20-21 with the top two teams moving on to qualifiers Feb. 27-28 in Cape Breton.

AWEC plays Monday in Digby where a win will advance them to Regionals and a loss will set them up as the hosts for the seeding tournament Feb. 20-21.
