Practices are underway for swimmers of the Les Aquadiens de Clare swim team (LADC) at the Universite Sainte -Anne pool and head coach Moira Milward is looking for new team members.
Anyone five years of age and older who can swim one length of the pool is welcome to join.
“There are about 20 youngsters in the club including five new members that came to practice Friday night and we are hoping more swimmers will join the group,” said Milward.
The club is made up of Nova Tech swimmers who are building up their strokes and their ability to compete explained Brown.
“The rest are in the Age Group Program who have passed the Nova Tech level and are competing with the drive to go to the East Coast Championship next spring.”
LADC’s goal is to make the championship and compete with other swimmers from the Atlantic Provinces in the short and long courses.
The head coach said the swimmers are talented but have not had enough training time.
“We are working on building up the training time to achieve our goal.”
Practices are being held at the university pool Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday afternoons from 4-6 p.m. with the Nova Tech swimmers practicing from 5-6:30 p.m. the same days.
Early morning practices will be added in the coming weeks said the coach.
Milward served as the assistant coach for the swim team last season and took over as head coach when the position became vacant this fall.
The LADC coach is well qualified to lead the team as she held the British record in the 200m butterfly and represented Great Britain on the swimming team at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany.
