“During April, we play Division 1 teams in the Valley Rugby League and in May we play Division 2 teams. These match-ups are decided by the standings at the end of April,” he said. “We are already qualified for the regional semi-final playoff game at the end of May.”
There are eight teams in the league and the top four teams in the standings continue in Division 1 play and the lower four teams continue in Division 2 play in May.
Now four games into the season, Saulnier said Digby’s “strengths are our athleticism, speed and understanding rugby strategy. Also the players dedication to showing up to all practices.”
However, weaknesses are not supporting the ball carrier and a need for improved tackling.
“We have a group of students that are ready to do anything for the team and fight for every inch of the field,” Saulnier said.
The goal this year is to win the regional Division 2 championship banner and on May 1 the team will take part in Rugby Fest at Acadia University.
There are 30 players on the DRHS team.
