Both men received almost 65 per cent of votes, although the figures are unofficial until verified by Elections Nova Scotia.
In both Digby-Annapolis and Clare, the NDP made strong showings as support strengthened across the province for the party that under Darrell Dexter has won a majority government.
In Digby-Annapolis, Harold Theriault received 3,514 votes or 64.32 per cent of votes cast. NDP candidate Sherri Oliver, with 1,025 votes, and 18.76 per cent of votes followed him.
Progressive Conservative candidate Cindy Nesbitt took 846 votes, or 15.49 per cent, while the Green Party’s Namron Bean, a late entry in the race, wound up with just 78 votes, and 1.43 per cent.
In Clare, Wayne Gaudet—who has been interim party leader more than once—polled 3,392 votes for 64.68 per cent of those cast. The NDP’s Paul Comeau did a particularly effective job and received 1,326 votes, just over a quarter of those cast.
The PC’s Jimmy (Bernie Doucet), with 459 votes, trailed far behind garnering just 8.75 of the vote, with the Green’s Diane Doucet-Bean took just 67 votes and 1.28 per cent.
Liberals Theriault, Gaudet pull almost two-thirds of votes
Harold (Junior) Theriault easily retained his Digby-Annapolis seat for the Liberals in tonight’s election, as did his counterpart Wayne Gaudet in Clare.
