Mark MacDonald says the company has largely worked out agreements with the provincial governments, but that isn’t yet the case as it pertains to the federal government.

Negotiations with the federal government are expected to continue throughout this week.

Provincial governments in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have each said they will contribute $2 million to keep the ferry service afloat in the short term and the federal government has said it will provide $4 million to keep the operation going for the next two years.

Bay Ferries announced in June that it would be discontinuing the service on Oct. 31. MacDonald said Monday for the company to change its intentions it has to have assurances from Ottawa that Bay Ferries is able to spend the money where it needs to be spent to keep the service running.
