A 29-year-old Meteghan woman died Thursday night after she lost control of the vehicle she was driving while trying to avoid a deer.

Nicole Mary Melanson of St. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene and was the sole occupant the vehicle she was traveling in.

The RCMP said speed was not a factor. The victim’s vehicle flipped over after trying to avoid the deer on the Second Division Road in St. Martin. Meteghan RCMP, the Meteghan fire department and EHS were notified of the collision at 9:59 p.m. on Oct. 30. The Western Traffic Services also investigated.

Const. Rolland Lavoie says there was a witness to the incident. A friend of the victim was traveling in a vehicle behind the one driven by Melanson.
