Search called off for fisherman

Officials have called off a search for a fisherman who fell overboard near Grand Manan early this morning.

The man was reported missing from the fishing vessel Determination I at 5:45 am Friday, Dec. 21 about 11 nautical miles off Grand Manan.

The Determination I is registered in Grand Manan.

The man was wearing rain gear but no personal floatation.

A Cormorant helicopter and a Hercules aircraft out of Greenwood were involved in the search plus the Earl Grey from Coventry Bay in Saint John, N.B. Approximately 20 fishing vessels also assisted in the search.

At 7 a.m. the search was downgraded and then later called off entirely.

Next of kin have been notified.
