A local youth died in a single vehicle collision on Digby Neck last night.

The 17-year-old from Conway hit a tree in Centreville sometime between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 21.

He was still in the vehicle wearing his seatbelt and pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only one travelling in the vehicle.

Digby RCMP Corporal Tim MacDonald said they know the youth was on his way to go fishing with his uncle but they aren’t sure what caused the accident.

He says it may have been slippery road conditions, it may have been deep ruts in the pavement or the young man may have swerved to avoid a deer, as deer tracks were spotted near the accident.

"We may never know what happened," says MacDonald.

What a shame. A young life that wont get to grow old and enjoy life.
