10-15 cm snow expected inland on Wednesday

The rain has started falling in Shelburne County.

Much of western Nova Scotia is under a rainfall warning as 30 to 50 millimeters of rain is expected by Wednesday evening.

Environment Canada says a trough of low pressure over New England will develop an intense low pressure system to the south of Nova Scotia Wednesday morning. Rain and gusty winds will begin over the south shore Tuesday afternoon and will continue until Wednesday afternoon. 30 to 50 millimeters of rain is expected.

The warning area includes Yarmouth, Digby, Queens and Lunenburg counties.

As the low pressure system begins to track farther away from Nova Scotia Wednesday afternoon, the rain is expected to change over to snow by early Wednesday evening. Inland sections of the above counties can expect 5-10 centimeters of snow Wednesday evening.
