In a bittersweet ending to a phenomenal season, the Digby U-14 boys soccer team won silver at the District Championships.
Digby lost 3-0 to East Kings in the championship match Thursday, Aug. 30 in Port Williams, NS.
Both teams started out strong, hungry for the District title. However, Digby was unable to score in the first half even with numerous shots on goal and the majority of possession. Digby’s defence and goalie were in top form, resulting in a half-time score of 0-0.
In the second half, an East Kings forward fired a hard shot and caught the far corner of Digby’s net making it 1-0. In the last 30 minutes of play, two more East King’s goals would slip past Digby’s defence and keeper for a final score of 3-0.
The boys had a stellar season, winning gold at the Annual Valley Kick-Off in July and now finishing second at Districts.
