RCMP detained a man yesterday in Grosses Coques under the Adult Protection Act.
Corporal Dana Parsons of the Meteghan Detachment said they searched the area yesterday for a man after the family expressed some concern about his well-being.
No charges were laid and Parsons says they took the man to hospital for a psychiatric assessment.
“The family was worried about how he has been behaving the last few weeks and that he hadn’t been eating or looking after himself,” says Parsons. “We picked him for his own well-being. We hope that adult protection can get involved in this.”
Parsons says the man didn’t go willingly and the officers did have to cuff the man to get him into the RCMP cruiser.
“His best buddy jumped in with him to offer moral support and he kept him calmed down. After he got settled he was fine as kine to me,” says Parsons.
Rumours in the community meanwhile were that Norman “Flat Nose” Deveau had threatened people with a gun.
Corp. Parsons says they too heard reports of armed threats and the family was concerned but the RCMP found no evidence that a gun was involved.
He did say that the man they detained has a history of unusual behaviour.
Residents also say the RCMP were telling residents to stay in their homes and keep their doors locked but Parsons says he doesn’t remember telling anyone that.
