A 20-year-old Digby man has been arrested after the front door of a home in Deep Brook was busted down and the 64-year-old homeowner was threatened just before 2 a.m. today.
Annapolis RCMP Cpl. Dale Guy said police received a 911 call from the home and both Annapolis and Digby RCMP responded immediately. He said the investigation revealed that a man had kicked in the front door of the Deep Brook residence and once inside confronted the 64-year-old woman demanding the keys to her car or he would stab her.
The man was given the keys and fled the scene in the homeowner's vehicle.
"Police quickly located the stolen car abandoned at a nearby business and found the male on the roof of the garage," Cpl. Guy said. "The individual refused to come down off the roof and started throwing items at police who had surrounded the building. When police went up onto the roof, the individual fled by jumping off the roof."
He was quickly arrested and taken to cells at the Digby RCMP detachment.
Cpl. Guy said police learned that the garage located in Deep Brook had been broken into and a motorcycle stolen, along with other items. The stolen motorcycle was located nearby.
Charges of robbery, break and enter, vehicle theft, breach of a court recognizance, breach of probation, and other charges are pending against the 20-year-old man. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court on Tuesday, Aug. 7 for a bail hearing.
Cpl. Guy said there were no injuries and police recovered a number of stolen items related to the crimes.
