Fire gutted the inside of a house above Bear River.

The house at civic #616 on the River View Road is still standing this afternoon but the insides are a charred mess.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

The neighbours called 911 a little after 11 a.m. when they noticed smoke rolling out from under the eaves and from around the windows.

Bear River Fire Department called for assistance from Digby and Smith's Cove.

An interior attack knocked down most of the fire quickly but the fire continued to spread under the roof and inside the walls.

Firefighters cut holes in the roof to ventilate the heat and smoke and to make sure there was no fire in the attic crawl space.
