A Clementsvale couple is dead after a two-vehicle, head-on collision on Highway 101 near the community of Grosses Coques in Digby County.
A 75-year-old female driver and the 71-year-old male passenger, both from Clementsvale, died at the scene. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
Meteghan RCMP responded to the accident just before 9 p.m.
Corporal Mathieu J.G. Vachon said the road surface was wet at the time of the accident as it had been raining but visibility was good.
Little Brook and Saint Bernard Fire Departments also responded to the call because of "possible entrapment and fire."
Witnesses at the scene saw one vehicle on its side and firefighters using the jaws of life.
The driver, and sole occupant of the other vehicle, was transported to Yarmouth Regional Hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries.
The investigation to determine the cause of the collision is ongoing.
