Don Higginbotham organized the club, which will hold its first meeting Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. in the Digby Area Arena. Pilots, student pilots, ex-pilots and wannabe pilots are asked to attend.
“It’s a brand new thing. Over the past 10 to 15 years, aviation has fallen to the wayside because of insurance, fuel expenses and so on. So we’re trying to ignite the interest in flying locally as we have a fabulous facility at the airport,” Higginbotham said. “We’re hoping to have membership up to 20 fairly shortly.”
He said the plan is to have weekly discussion sessions on meteorology, navigation, procedures, radio protocols, and flight theory, and also to have occasional guest speakers.
There will be discussion with Greenwood Flight Centre about flight training, upgrading certifications, refreshers and group sightseeing sharing costs as well.
Higginbotham said the club will have a modest membership fee. For more information, call 638-3292.
