He received his degree in nursing at Dalhousie University and from there worked as an educator, although that hadn’t been his original intention.
“My plans were more to continue to be a clinician, however I was offered a job in Yarmouth (as instructor) where they had a diploma in nursing program,” he said in an interview last week.
After that he took a job as nursing supervisor at Yarmouth Regional Hospital, which allowed him to develop management and clinical skills in many areas. He stuck with that job for 14 years while taking on a few interim roles and worked on special committees.
In 1995, d’Entremont became manager of the Meteghan ambulance service and also had the opportunity to travel to the United States to see how a high performance ambulance system works.

He has also been provincial chairperson for the education committee, provincial paramedics and manager for Meteghan area as well as Yarmouth and district area for Emergency Health Services.
“It’s been very interesting,” said d’Entremont. “One of my challenges as a manager was the availability of paramedics who met the provincial standards for education so we had to recruit from, Ontario, out west, Newfoundland and New Brunswick where they had paramedic programs. We were successful in recruiting, the challenge was retention.”
