The two-session program being offered free to parents and guardians of high school students in grades 10-12 and is put on by the province’s Department of Labour and Workforce Development.
“It’s a program to equip parents to better assist their kids in making informed and successful education and career choices,” said Digby Regional High School advisory committee chair Jackie Titus-Smith.
The program focuses on career discussions, today’s labour market, career websites and resources along with developing a resume.
“I think it’s important because, if you’ve got a child making decisions, it’s good for you to get involved with them, especially because they haven’t got the life experiences yet,” she said.
The program will be offered at DRHS and St. Mary’s Bay Academy this year in hopes of attracting more parents.
“Last year we tried to hold it and we didn’t get enough response,” Titus-Smith said.
The program will take place March 29 in Digby and March 30 at SMBA. Both sessions run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Parents should register before March 25, online at www.parentsascareercoaches.ca or by calling DRHS at 245-7500 or Joanne Bulger at (902) 424-4264.
