The study was funded by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and its aim was to analyze transportation systems and the economy in Digby, Shelburne and Yarmouth counties. The study was announced last year when the federal and provincial governments through another lifeline to the Bay of Fundy ferry service between Digby and Saint John, N.B.
“We’re doing a lot of work behind the scenes,” MP Greg Kerr said last week. “It is supposed to be out by mid-March at which point we’ll take it and go back to our partners and sit down and talk about it. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I feel good about the opportunities here.”
Digby mayor Ben Cleveland believes the study will show the Digby ferry is a commercially viable link for this part of the province.

As well, the Bay of Fundy Transportation Coalition continues to deliver its message of the importance of the Digby to Saint John ferry service.
Coalition spokesman Jim Thurber said the group has made presentations in the last month to MPs in Fall River, Truro, Dartmouth, Bridgewater and Digby, as well as Saint John.
“We are still continuing to carry our message to the federal politicians,” Thurber said. “As well, we’ve certainly made our presentation to a lot of provincial politicians.”
