“They told us if we showed up, it would be worth our while,” said fire chief Gerald Moore of the Dec. 1 presentation at the Municipality’s office in Seabrook.
The group had applied for a grant from the Emergency Service Providers Fund in 2007, but did not receive funding. They went to their MLA, Harold Theriault in the summer of 2008 to ask if he would look into the status of their application.
Theriault said he learned the paperwork had been lost by Service Nova Scotia, but luckily they were able to put it together again and re-submit it.
Energy Minister Richard Hurlburt, MLA for Yarmouth, presented the cheque to Chief Moore, calling it as ‘Christmas cheer from Jamie Muir.’

The money will fund construction of a 7,200-square foot single-level building that will house the deprtment’s pumper, rescue truck and emergency van. It will also be used for training sessions and emergency care as well as fundraising and receptions.
The current two-storey building was constructed more than 35 years ago and the last inspection showed found a problem with mould.
Freeport Fire Department was founded about 50 years ago and its 25 volunteers provide emergency services to about half of Long Island’s 800 residents.
‘Christmas cheer’ for Freeport firefighters
It was feeling a lot like Christmas last week for members of the Freeport Fire Department when were presented a $250,000 cheque from the province to help build a new fire hall.
