Twelve princesses came to town June 4 as part of the 80th Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival.
Digby was the final stop for the royal procession, which made dozens of appearances during the almost weeklong event.
Digby princess Alyssa Oliver, said the experience was great, but that she was glad it was coming to an end.
The rain held off for the event in the Fundy Restaurant, and the group of girls who clearly had become friends were relaxed and goofy. After the official presentations, they gave each other joke awards.
Oliver won best catchphrase of the week, and when Queen Annapolisa Samantha Whynot announced her award, all of the girls shouted “Digby!”, evoking laughter from the crowd.
“As you all know, Alyssa has more than a few jokes up her sleeve, and Digby kept us laughing the whole time,” Whynot said.
Susan Rice, who organized the Digby event, said, “Alyssa has truly been an ambassador of Digby and her drive and ambition make her an excellent role model for our community.”
The mayor, town councilors, and community dignitaries attended the event.
Digby’s Scallop Queen becomes the community’s entrant in the next year’s Apple Blossom Festival.
