Honors graduate double medalist, receiving award from reception with Queen Elizabeth

Thirty-eight students from St. Mary’s Bay Academy walked across the stage to receive high school graduating diplomas during graduation ceremonies Friday.

Achievement awards in all subject areas, bursaries and scholarships were also awarded during the June 25 ceremony, with honors graduate Kyle Lombard awarded the Governor-General’s Medal,

Lombard also has won the Queen Elizabeth II Medal that was presented this week at a special reception in Halifax for all such medal recipients in the province. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were scheduled to attend the reception.

Besides winning a $16,000 scholarship to Dalhousie University, Lombard was also awarded nearly $2,000 in bursaries and scholarships from the school, as well as local businesses, hospitals, auxiliaries, clubs and organizations. He also received a $1,000 Nova Scotia Freemasons Scholarship from the Tuscan Lodge 111, Weymouth.

A second honors graduate, Alyssa Frost, received university scholarships and was also awarded nearly $2,000 in similar bursaries, including a $1,000 bursary from the Weymouth branch of the Royal Bank.

Natasha Deveau was awarded the Tri-County Regional School Board Student Community Award.

Several graduates won scholarships and bursaries each valued at $500.

Valedictorian Lacey Robicheau won the Nova Scotia Teachers Union Bursary and will be attending Memorial University to study education.

Jessica Sullivan won the Lions Club of Weymouth Scholarship, Tyler Barr received the Royal Canadian Legion Weymouth Branch 67 bursary and Megan Frankland was awarded the Ruth Goodwin bursary.

Cerea Boudreau was awarded the Weymouth Pharmasave Health Care bursary, Alyssa Frost won the SMBA Home and School bursary and Alicia King received the Digby General Hospital Auxiliary bursary.

Alicia Theriault and Kyle Lombard were named athletes of the year.
