“We have a huge heritage fair here every year in April, which is a big day,” principal Gaylene Sabine said. “All the students get to come in and look at the projects and then some are chosen to go onto our regional fair.”
Barton’s team, the ‘Not So Smart Smart People’, was the overall winner at the regional fair in Yarmouth June 3. Team members were Thian Carman, Lucas D’Ambroise, Shaylyn Lewis and Maddy Carter.
Carman then traveled to Halifax to represent Tri-County Regional School Board with his project about maple syrup.
“They had a set-up in the middle of the Maritimes Museum and the public was allowed in. We just put on a big heritage fair for them, which started off with a parade,” Carman said.
Carman described the sign he made as part of a contest, which had a giant scallop dragger on it and how there were a bunch of games and contests throughout the day.
Wrapping up this years’ heritage fair events at the school were the presentation of awards, medals and prizes.
The Junior Judge P-3 went to Kaitlyn Marshall for a project on O&M Trucking. Diana Hakim won the Weymouth Historical Society Award for her project on The Digby Courier. The Barton Home and School Award went to Jordan Sullivan for his project on the fur industry.
