As darkness approached, the lights dimmed in the Digby Community Education Centre and those who dared to enter were greeted with gutted and hanging bodies, gravestones, a murder scene and more.

Students at the school transformed the building last Thursday and Friday into a haunted house as a fundraiser for the school.

Instructor Maxine MacLean said funds will go towards graduation, school supplies and a few other things. “It was a very good, very worthwhile endeavour for them,” said MacLean.

Education centre student Sherry Higgins said the haunted house scared the younger visitors. “They would leave here screaming and running.”

Those who walked through the doors last week first saw a doll hanging from the ceiling with a noose around its neck, blood trickling down its face. As they made their way through the hallway into the cemetery, the room was dark and gravestones glowed eerily in the room.

Further down the hallway was a crime scene with blood spilled everywhere and then houseguests were shown a science lab where a body was cut wide open on a table.

Last but not least was the classroom with a jail and electric chair. ldelong@digbycourier.ca
