Tri-County VON is counting on the town for $2,000.
Friends of Ferals is requesting a $500 grant.
Digby Regional High School’s student council has a $7,000 trip planned and is looking for financial support.
CruiseFundy.com is asking for $3,000, and Apple Blossom Festival is counting on $1,200.
The Wharf Rat Rally is asking for $5,000—and 1,000 town pins.
“I really think we’re going to have to use our funds to run the town,” said Coun. Brian Manzer. I don’t think any citizen in this town is going to be happy to see taxes increase. We have issues of our own. It all adds up.”
Mayor Ben Cleveland last month told the Digby Area Board of Trade that the town will soon add as much as $1.5 million to its debt load, the result of upgrades to the wastewater system and a new pipeline to the town’s wells.
Town’s pursestrings may be tight
Groups look for assistance from Digby town council may be facing disappointment. There were seven requests for funding support on council’s agenda April 6, and all were referred to the budget committee.
