Health-care workers went on strike at 6 a.m. however a deal was reached just after 8 a.m. Monday morning. A deal was reached between school board support workers the day before.
“As it stands right now, CUPE members are returning to work this morning,” said South West District Health Authority spokesperson Fraser Mooney. “The issues they were concerned with, such as wage parity were all addressed in the agreement.”
The next step is to have a membership vote on the tentative agreement, he said.
While the strike has been averted, it would take a few days for things to return to normal, said Mooney.
“A number of surgeries and appointments and clinics that were postponed still need to be re-scheduled,” he said.
DHA also closed a number of hospital beds across the district as well, so they will start admitting people, he added.
About 100 CUPE members at Digby General Hospital were involved along with 81 Tri-County school bus drivers and 45 – 50 school support staff in Digby County.
