Digby Elementary School will transform into a family day fundraiser for the Keith Trimper Memorial Playground this Saturday with a scavenger hunt, games, potato sack races and more.
A sub-committee of DES Home and School Association is putting on the event from 10 a.m. to 2p.m. It is the first major fundraiser for the new playground, which will have a walking track, bleachers, an outdoor classroom, vegetable garden, barbeque pit and playground equipment.
The playground cost is $150,000 to $160,000, and the build date is Sept. 25.
On Saturday those who attend the fundraiser can enjoy a scavenger hunt at 10:30 a.m. and games such as water balloon toss, potato sack races, beanbag toss and more starting at 11 a.m. said committee member Poppy Balser.
Balser said the playground organizing committee has received a $1,500 grant from the Community Wellness Fund applied for in May.
“The Lions have donated funds to go toward a specialized piece of equipment for special needs children and the Shell station has made a donation of $1,000 and issued a corporate challenge for other businesses to match it,” Balser said.
The committee was also looking for yard sale contributions, which can be dropped off at the school tomorrow, June 18, after school hours until 7 p.m.
