Science teacher Greg Turner of Digby Regional High School was among 23 educators recognized last week in Halifax for using innovative teaching methods to provide students with the tools to be successful in their studies and beyond graduation.

The awards support this year's Education Week theme, Innovative Teaching in the 21st Century.

“It was nice to see people from around the province doing some incredible things,” said Turner.

Technology has just exploded in the classroom with developments such as portable computer tablets like the iPad, he said. It wasn’t that long ago that all of the school’s computers were contained in just one room.

His remark echoed a comment at the Education week opening by Education Minister Ramona Jennex.

“Thanks to our teachers and education partners, Nova Scotian students are engaged in our changing world in a way that is not only keeping pace but raising the bar,” the minister said.

Awesome Greg ! You are an amazing teacher, I wish I had been a better student for you some days lol. You really do have a great teaching method that really works, there are days now when I will add a random biology fact into conversations, and that has stuck with me because of you and your jokes and songs !

The students who have had you over the years have great lifetime memories of an awesome teacher giving them tools to work with later in their careers!! Keep up the great work and enjoy your well deserved upcoming retirement.
