The event’s community activities include sailboat races, a reception at the Royal Western Nova Scotia Yacht Club, a dinner and auction.
There are also special exhibits at the Admiral Digby Museum and the Old Temperance Hall Meeting House in Smith’s Cove.
In Smith’s Cove, money raised by SAILabration has helped fund restoration of the steeple on the ‘old Methodist chapel’ and is vital to pay for staffing and operation. At the Admiral Digby Museum in Digby, the proceeds are an essential component of the annual budget.
SAILabration also brings local residents, summer people and tourists together to socialize, feast, and benefit the Smith’s Cove and Digby historical societies.
Organizers are still looking for interesting items to auction, and enthusiastic bidders to participate in the auction. For details, contact Admiral Digby Museum curator Sheryl Stanton at 245-6322.
Boat races, dinner aid area museums
SAILabration, which has raised almost $200,000 since its inception in 1996 to support two area heritage organizations, will be held July 24-26.
