I am an honest, plain speaking man.
I worked for Innovative Fisheries (Seafood Plant) travelling all over south western Nova Scotia; and at the Cornwallis Base as a painter. I was Chief Shop Steward looking after 700 employees.
I have volunteered to paint and repair several local churches; I helped clean up Journey's Lake for the Kiwanis. I was a volunteer sports director at the Royal Canadian Legion for several years, support all church bazaars, local fire hall functions and the Weymouth Historical Society.
It’s important to keep taxes and services in balance by spending more wisely. We have to choose options that give the most value, benefit the most people and are of long term benefit.
It is better to work with local, existing businesses than outside businesses to find ways of increasing employment. Small businesses and the natural resource businesses provide most jobs in the area and local business owners spend their profits here.
We have a lot of businesses based on natural resources. Laws, rules and regulations are essential to protect the environment and to promote long term sustainability. Most businesses follow the rules and act responsibly and we should work with them.
I would like to open a discussion on Hydro Electric Power on the Sissiboo River System and study the potential of developing this green resource available right here.
I will listen to people’s concerns, care about their needs, share their hopes and frustrations, be responsible with their tax dollar, be worthy of their trust, will work hard for and with them, and always be honest and true.
