Candidate for the 2012 municipal elections in the Municipality of the District of Digby

Topics :
Heritage Advisory Committee , Barton Consolidated School Advisory Council , Source Water Protection Advisory Committee , Polling District , Brighton , Bay of Fundy

I am a retired teacher, have lived in Brighton for eight years and help my husband manage our farm.

I chaired the Heritage Advisory Committee, the Digby and Area Early Prevention Program, the Barton Consolidated School Advisory Council, and the review committee for Barton; and co-chaired the Source Water Protection Advisory Committee.

We need a long term plan for the Digby-Saint John Ferry. I support the committee that is in place with stakeholders on both sides of the Bay of Fundy.

We need to follow students from our area going into medicine, support them, welcome them in the summer and keep in contact. The province should make Dalhousie set aside seats for doctors to go to rural areas for three years.

We need a task force with Digby and Clare to consult with stakeholders who travel Highway 1. We are trying to set up a meeting with the Minister of Transportation or the Premier. I constantly bring up the condition of and ask about paving for roads here.

Having been a councillor for District 2 for four years, I continue to have the time and commitment to serve my district and the municipality.

I have learned some of what it takes to run a municipality and wish to have the opportunity to continue learning and serve the residents to the best of my ability.
