I was born and raised in East Ferry. My family and I moved to Marshalltown 11 years ago.
As a kid we all worked hard in the fish plants and had a good time. I wish young people today had the chance to work like we did.
I have captained and crewed fishdraggers, scalloppers, owned and operated my own lobster boat for 40 years. Seven years ago I went to work on the ferryboat between East Ferry and Tiverton.
I talk to a lot of locals and tourists and it is surprising what you learn.
I share the issues facing us from the down turn of the fishery, closing of our mills, doctor shortages, ferry services, school closures, difficulties in operating small businesses, lack of funding or revenue for our fire departments and our road conditions.
I would never buy another house on a dirt road. We’re beating our vehicles to pieces. I would like to try and make a change.
I have learned some important issues that I never thought of like how much taxpayers’ money has been spent on the airport. The dispatch center could have been put in the old Tideview. I don't think a 40-year-old building is old. I bet there was room for a medical center also.
