Turnout for Digby’s first electronic vote was down from 2008.
In town, roughly 53 per cent or 786 of the 1467 eligible voters cast a ballot over the week-long voting period.
In 2008, with the added interest of a race for mayor, 75 per cent or 933 people voted out of 1236 eligible voters.
Information was not available by press time about the percentage of voters from 2004, the last time the town had mayoral election.
The 2008 numbers also include Tideview which is now part of the Municipality of the District of Digby.
Without Tideview the 2008 numbers would be 78 per cent: 902 of 1147 eligible voters cast a ballot.
Information about how many voted by phone and how many voted online won’t be available until Tuesday.
In the Municipality of the District of Digby, where voters had the option of casting an e-vote or making an X on a paper ballot, 85 per cent went electronic and 15 per cent used the manual method.
The turnout for the Municipality as a whole (excluding District #1 where Jimmy MacAlpine was returned by acclamation) came to 45 per cent.
That’s up slightly from 2008 when candidates in two districts were elected by acclamation. For the three districts with elections in 2008, the turnout was 44 per cent.
District #4 had the highest turnout this year with 64 per cent of eligible voters casting a ballot.
District #4 was also the highest in 2008 with 65 per cent.
There were 6,154 eligible voters in the municipality in 2008 down to 5421 eligible voters this year.
