Team effort made the 2011 Relay for Life in Digby a great success.
Nearly 200 participants including cancer survivors, family members, friends and other caregivers gathered at the Don Brown Memorial ballfield to celebrate, remember and fight back.
The ballfield came to life as 17 teams pitched and decorated their tents around the track in preparation for the event.
Gail Harding and her Mammogrammies team won the VIP tent and all the fixings by raising a total of over $11,000.
Gaels of Fundy Pipe and Drum band lead the Survivor Victory Lap and the Caregivers’ Lap while spectators and team members cheered them in their walk.
Participants and spectators were kept entertained with a variety of musical and dance performances from 5 p.m. until midnight.
A full slate of events from games, contests and a movie kept everyone busy from the opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. Friday until sunrise Saturday morning.
Organizers and volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the relay to keep the event running on track.
Organizers announced Saturday morning that they had raised nearly $54 000 for the Canadian Cancer Society, with more expected to filter in over the next few weeks.
