Brittain is heading up the committee that is developing the town’s ‘integrated community sustainability plan’ (ICSP). That’s a fancy name for a document that plans for Digby’s social, cultural, economic and environmental future.
The town has sent information out to every household in Digby and has also contacted business, educational, church and community leaders asking them to come—and to spread the word that everyone’s ideas will be heard and valued.
The June 17 community meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. will deal with social and cultural issues. The June 27 meeting will deal with economic and environmental concerns.
Every municipality in Canada is required to develop an ICSP if they are to receive direct transfers of federal gas tax revenue. As well as providing a vision for Digby’s future, the ICSPs will identify key projects that will promote long-term sustainable growth and prosperity.
Along with Brittain, the committee that is developing the plan includes members of the town’s Planning Advisory Committee (PAC). They are council members Brian Manzer, Ron Matsusaki and Mayor Ben Cleveland. The citizen members of PAC are Lori VanTassell and John Nichols. Guiding the ICSP process are 4Site Marketing consultants Chris Miller and Grant Cooke.
