Fisheries and Oceans Canada today extended its ban on shellfishing harvesting in the Annapolis Basin near Digby.

Topics :
Port Wade , Deep Brook , Cornwallis

The ban, which excludes scallops, was extended because of a second overflow of wastewater from the Digby water treatment facility.

The orginal ban took effect Dec. 2

The closure includes harvesting of oysters, soft shell clams, razor clams, surf clams, mussels and quahogs, and gastropod molluscs such as whelk, for recreational or commercial purposes.

The area from inside a line drawn from Port Wade to Deep Brook remains open, including the Thornes Cove and Cornwallis areas.
