Operator Ken Baker from Bridgewater said the sweeper, which is at Miller Lake near Halifax, clears away debris along curbs in towns and communities that do not have their own public works equipment.
“We are sent out from the Department of Transportation and this week we have been working in Weymouth,” Baker said. “We’ll have everything cleared away by the end of the week and then work in Conway next week.”
Highway maintenance worker Richard Wambolt said the two-man crew that accompanies the sweeper checks manhole covers and loosens hardened debris to make it easier for the sweeper to clear.
“The sweeper is equipped with a hose that sucks out the manholes along the curbs,” Wambolt said. “It also sweeps all the bridges along the 101.”
