A regional plan to promote ‘active transportation’ will be launched May 13 in a public presentation in the Cornwallis Room of the Kentville Research Station.

Topics :
Nova Scotia Health Promotion and Protection department , Annapolis Valley Trails Coalition , Digby Area Recreation Commission , West Hants

The plan is a product of the Nova Scotia Health Promotion and Protection department’s Valley office, and promotes an awareness of the benefits of active transportation such as walking and wheeling, whether by bicycle, skateboard or wheelchair, says Bob Powell of Digby, treasurer of the Annapolis Valley Trails Coalition.

Powell, who is also recreation manager with Digby Area Recreation Commission, said the trails coalition is hosting the launching.

The presentation will look at concepts of active transportation, including health, economic and community benefits, and explore its development in Valley communities from West Hants to Clare. “Active transportation is good for the environment, good for people and good for communities,” said Powell.

The presentation will be held from 7 – 9 p.m.
