The event provides job seekers with the chance to learn about employment and training opportunities that exist in the Digby area—and beyond.
Representatives of seasonal employers like the Digby Pines and Upper Clements Park are on hand to answer questions and applications are available.
Rene LeBlanc, manager of the Digby Pines Golf Resort and Spa, said he anticipates a need for 65 to 70 new employees this year, many at the entry level.
Upper Clements Park will be opening June 15. Kris Humphreys said the positions available there offer flex hours varying from 30 to 48 hours per week. “And typically employees get in enough hours to qualify for employment insurance.”
Convergys, an inbound call centre and the largest employer in the Digby area, currently has more than 400 employees and is hiring at the rate of the 20 per week, according to Dana Surette.
The Canadian military and RCMP are also recruiting.
“We have a real need for new recruits,” said RCMP Cst. Darrrell McNeil, “because several years ago there was a five year period when we didn’t hire at all. With senior officers retiring, we need to fill that gap.”
Other employers and trainers at the event, which takes place from 10 a.m. til 4 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday are: Acadian Seaplants, Annapolis Valley Work Activity Society, Apprenticeship Training, Atlantic Superstore, Commercial Safety College, Construction Trade Program, CRC, DCEC, Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans, International Union of Operating Engineers Training School, Larsen’s, Michelin, Mountain Gap, NSCC, Service Canada, Sobeys, Tideview Terrace
