Basin areas reopened for shellfish harvesting

The federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans has ended its ban on shellfish harvesting in a large portion of the Annapolis Basin.

The prohibition was lifted Friday due to a decrease in bacteriological levels.

All areas are normally opened are available for harvesting, including Thorne’s Cove, Smith’s Cove, Bear River and Port Wade areas.

Areas that are normally closed, such as Big and Little Joggins, The Raquette and the Cornwallis area, remain closed and are not available for open harvesting.
